New Orleans
Hurricane Heaven
Of course, the infamous Bourbon Street with all of its beads, booze and jazz beats is a popular destination for a night on the town. Slightly off Bourbon Street is the well known Pat O’Brien’s home to the hurricane cocktail. With plenty of outdoor seating and an epic patio, this is the happy hour spot.
Beyond the French Quarter, there is the music scene that is Frenchman Street. Jazz clubs like The Spotted Cat showcase some of the best live music the city has to offer. Another spot away from the crowds is Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits. Purchase your wine and cheese selections in the front store, and then grab a seat out in the backyard to enjoy the live performances.
Bites + Beignets
Once you have had your fill of beignets from Cafe Du Monde (yes, definitely worth the wait and the crowds), here are some of our favorite restaurants to try:
Longway Tavern - located in the Quarter, try to get a seat in their courtyard. Plenty of plates to try and share making it a perfect spot for dinner
C&T - a brunch highlight, Cane & Table is also one of the best cocktail bars in the city
Cavan - plan a dinner at this beautiful old mansion in the Garden District. A modern twist on traditional Southern dishes plus an extensive cocktail menu. Before your reservation, grab a drink at nearby Baru Bistro & Tapas
Central Grocery & Deli - for a more casual lunch, grab a sandwich at the home of the muffuletta and enjoy your picnic at Jackson Square
Some other brunch spots on my list for next time are Willa Jean (trendy bakery), Elizabeth’s (traditional Southern style food, doesn’t take reservations) and Muriel’s (fancy jazz brunch, need a reservation far in advance).
Beyond the Bourbon
Some other activities to escape the bar scene:
Explore the charm, stores and homes of the Garden District, French Quarter, Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral
Swamp boat tours - I’ve never been, but know people who have survived the gators
